For the first time in a long while we have some real news/rumor going on with the new Star Wars films. Saoire Ronan has auditioned for at least one of multiple female lead roles in the new Star Wars film. Some may recognize Ronan from the action movie Hannah and a number of other smaller or independant movies. This is good news for Star Wars fans because we know that Ronan can effectively carry a movie by herself. It will be awesome to finally see Jaina Solo finally embodied in a live action film.
Also, another bit of news, or more appropriately, speculation from Latino Review. They are adamantly claiming that Benedict Cumberbatch will in fact be in ALL THREE Star Wars films, despite Cumberbatch flat-out denying being involved with the project in any way. You can read the full text over at Latino Review.
Announced today at a film industry event in Los Angeles, we’re exclusively reporting that Dan Mindel ASC, BSC is shooting Star Wars Episode 7 with J.J. Abrams — on 35mm film. Specifically, Kodak film stock 5219.
This is an interesting choice, but not surprising due to the fact that JJ Abrams seems to be quite fond of film. Both of his Star Trek movies have been shot on film, as was Super 8. It’s a bold choice, we’ll see if it pays off for him.
(Bonus points to anyone who get’s the pop-culture reference in the last sentence)
For nearly all the years that I’ve been a computer user with my own system (since 2001 or so), I’ve used Star Wars wallpapers nearly exclusively. In my time I’ve seen some really great ones, and have amassed a fairly large collection. Its also really easy to find cool ones on the interweb, where some of the best content may not even be discovered yet. So I’ll be posting a Weekly Wallpaper, comprised of the what we think is the best of the best in Wallpapers.
This week is my favorite from a Star Wars Brands series that reddit user Clemalum07 posted from imgur.com.
I’m a life long Coca Cola drinker(I drink it way too much….), plus Han Solo is awesome. 1+1=2, am I right?
Originally interviewed about his new movie “The Worlds End”, Simon Pegg’s latest collaboration with “Cornetto Trilogy” colleges Nick Frost and Edgar Wright, the interview inevitably made it’s way to Star Wars. Referring to a statement Pegg had made about the latest Prequel Trilogy movies, the interviewer asked him why he hated Star Wars. Pegg was forced to clarify saying that:
I don’t hate “Star Wars.” I love “Star Wars.” “Star Wars” is an incredibly formative film for me as a human being and formed so much of who I am….The prequels I didn’t like at all, because they felt contrary to everything that made the first films great.
As a person who grew up during the Original Trilogy releases as well as a successful sci-fi film maker, Pegg has a unique perspective on the Star Wars franchise. You can read the full interview at Huffington Post.
And as an added bonus, take a look at a College Humor skit Pegg and Frost did about two years ago. Enjoy!
Obviously done for laughs, Conan tries to bribe Harrison Ford for details on the new Star Wars movie. I guess it’s not only Fanboys jonzing for info, which just goes to show you how far Disney’s silence on the issue is reverberating.
Since ending both San Diego Comic Con and Disney’s D23 Expo without any new Star Wars VII news, Star Wars fans are beginning to wonder just what the state of the new franchise movie is. As a matter of fact, the only “information” given at D23 was what is already known and confirmed. Alan Horn, chairman of Disney reiterated that JJ Abrams was directing, John Williams will score the film and that it was slated for a 2015 release. And…. that was it. Said Horn, “I really wish I could tell you more. It will come soon.”
You can find a myriad of pages on Google documenting how nervous and unruly fans are getting about this, some lamenting that the new Star Wars film will flat out suck, and that they need the “real” news to keep their hopes up. For these people, I have NO SYMPATHY. I have 3 reasons.
JJ Abrams, who is behind one of the most successful TV shows of all time.
Star Trek and Into Darkness, as probably the best reboot of a thing aside from Nolan’s Batman.
Abrams history with and fandom of Steven Spielberg, who was the saving grace behind Revenge of the Sith.
My final point is that I don’t feel like there is any real reason to think that Star Wars VII is going to suck. Abrams has proven himself one of the masters of revitalizing a franchise, and it’s all pluses when you ad in that he’s been a true Star Wars fan his whole life. The new Star Trek films that Abrams has just done will not hold a candle to the new Disney/Lucasfilm venture. I think we can all agree with long-time Abrams associate Damon Lindelof on this:
I am so angry about Disney showing no STAR WARS VII stuff at D-23 that I refuse to see the movie more than four thousand times.
The rumor mill (Latino Review) is at it again. Latino Review is reporting that yet another character will return in Star Wars Episode VII. This time it’s Ewan McGregor who they’re saying will come back as Obi-Wan Kenobi in “Force Ghost” form.
Take this with a huge truckload of salt though. None of these claims have yet to be confirmed and until they are it’s best they stay rumors and nothing more.
The Huffington Post is reporting that George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson welcomed a new member into the family on August 9th. While Everest Hobson Lucas isn’t the only Lucas child, she is the first biological child for both George and Mellody.
